A decade ago, the youngest son of Kakira’s founder started laying down spirit made from their very own sugarcane grown on the Kakira estate in Uganda. Everything is ‘in house’, from the growing and processing of sugarcane to the distillation, blending and aging of spirits. The final spirits are cut with water from Lake Victoria at the source of the River Nile and the entire estate is powered by renewable energy from waste cane fibre, making it carbon neutral. Kakira houses 4,500 employees, providing them with free electricity, water, healthcare and education. Kakira is ‘True African Spirit’
